What is RFID?
| Radio Frequency Identification Technology
is a highly reliable way to electronically control,
detect and track a variety of items using FM transmission
methods. A small tag, or transponder, affixed to
or embedded into virtually any object identifies
the object. Two types of RFID tags are available.
The first type is a unique, factory-programmed,
pre-numbered tag that identifies the object to which
it is affixed. The second type is a user-writeable
tag that contains a unique number to identify the
object. |
|
Since RFID does not require line-of-sight
between the transponder and the reader, these systems
overcome the limitations of other automatic identification
approaches, such as barcoding. This means that RFID
systems work effectively in hostile environments where
excessive dirt, dust, moisture and/or poor visibility
would normally hamper rapid identification.
One outstanding benefit of RFID is its ability to read
through these environments at remarkable speeds - responding
in less than 100 milliseconds in most cases. Furthermore,
RFID is completely automatic and transparent, eliminating
the need to scan an object manually or activate a magnetic
stripe, reader, or other contact ID technology.
ATM Tech Solutions
uses RFID technology for its RF Bridge™ product
and RF Trak™ software.

Easily tracks:
- Library books
- Evidence
- File folders
- Media tapes
- Almost anything

Huge Time and
Cost Savings Over Traditional Barcode Scanning
- No manual scanning
- Automatic data entry
- Scan HUNDREDS of items in SECONDS
- Link to MasterTrak™ or other ODBC databases
The RF Bridge and RF Trak software work together to
provide a fast, efficient means of checking in or out
items equipped with RFID tags. The RF Bridge was specifically
designed to accommodate containers of magnetic tapes
that must be frequently inventoried and checked in and
out of a facility. Instead of scanning each tape's barcode
one at a time, the RF Bridge scans all of the tapes
in a single case simultaneously in less than a second.
By simply passing the case under the RF Bridge, the
RFID tags applied under the tape label are automatically
read and verified by the RF Trak software. RF Bridge
can be adapted to accommodate library books, Evidence
Tracking, and File Folder Tracking.
In less than a second, RF Trak can scan dozens of RFID
tags, matching the unique identifiers of each tag to
an existing database, or generating one on the fly.
RF Trak eliminates two error-prone and time-consuming
activities: manual data collection and data entry. RF
Trak bypasses these two steps, providing a quick, accurate,
and cost-effective way to collect and enter data. RF
Trak allows you to enter any number and associate this
number with the RFID Tag. This allows easy conversion
from using barcodes to using RFID technology. RF Trak
can link with most databases through an ODBC link, and
is already fully integrated with ATM Tech Solutions’
asset tracking software, MasterTrak.
